To most event producers the title to this entry probably seems ridiculous at first glance, but speaking from experience, not all of our clients see the difference. Continue reading “Event Producers vs. Venue Managers: What’s the difference?”
Using Social Media to Get More Business/Buzz

I attended an EPWN seminar on how to use social media to create a buzz for your business. Today we are not just connected through social media, but we are actually doing business through these channels. The big players are Facebook, Google+ and Twitter. Some of the younger generations are searching through Facebook Pages instead of Google searches for websites. Continue reading “Using Social Media to Get More Business/Buzz”
The 1 Minute Company Pitch
The European Professional Women’s Network of Marseille has a club just for entrepreneurs. It’s called the E-Club and we meet once a month for lunch at a restaurant. The March meeting was held at Pain et Companie in Marseille’s Vieux Port area. It’s nice to have the camaraderie of other women also starting or running their own businesses here in France. During the meeting we worked on our 1 minute company pitch. We all need one, and we need it to be clear and concise. When we are trying to get our foot in the door with a new client, we don’t have much time to make that initial sales pitch for our company, so it needs to be good.
Here are some tips that were gathered by the leaders of the group and collaborated on by group members: Continue reading “The 1 Minute Company Pitch”
The challenge of creating a functional website…
The tale I am about to tell is for anyone starting a new small business. Read closely so that you can swerve past these speed bumps with ease during your start-up. I built a little website for my resume over 4 years ago, even though I didn’t really need it and I wasn’t full-time freelance. I used iWeb and my .me account to publish. Over the past few years, I have tinkered with it to try to make it more professional, the closer I got to being full-time freelance. I created the company name and bought my domain this summer, then paid a friend to create a little logo and some icons to match. I did a major revamp on my iWeb site, and then I hit the first speed bump. iWeb sites have no search engine visibility because you cannot alter the HTML or install plugins or create meta tags. Office View in Sunny Provence
Being an independent event producer has a lot of perks, in my opinion, one being that we can work mostly from home. I am very lucky to live in the south of france with my husband and that he gives me the opportunity to do what I love, events. I don’t say thank you to him enough, as his work affords me the luxury of building my event business.
The Importance of the Vendor Network

This week I am digging my heels in to really try and make some vendor connections. It seems that there are pros and cons to living in the countryside (read middle of no where). Although the south of France is not touted as your average countryside, there are some pretty vast areas, with not a whole lot to offer in the way of event vendors. So where does one go to find them? The bigger surrounding cities? I guess, that’s a start, but having so many people travel an hour seems not very economic or ecological. Continue reading “The Importance of the Vendor Network”
Event Trade Shows, or Salons, en France
When it comes to event trade shows, what’s not to like? Everyone wants to talk to you, make you feel special and most importantly, they give you fun free stuff! This is my 2nd experience at the Seminaires Business/Events Salon(trade show) in Lyon, France. It’s not super big, perhaps 200 exhibitors, but it’s worth a leisurely ride up on the TGV and I have the added bonus of having lunch with a good friend of ours who is coincidentally an exhibitor. Quel chance! So why do I come here? Continue reading “Event Trade Shows, or Salons, en France”
